I was wondering if someone has a good idea on how to cure this?

My fuel tanks vent (non-standard fuel system) through a vent / roll over valve to atmosphere (I'm checking if they are the correct ones), the unfortunate side affect is that I sometimes get a fuel smell when driving (especially on full tanks) or when parked in my garage.

I know road cars usually vent to plastic “charcoal” canister, but I was hoping for something simpler and more elegant.

What ever it is it need to be “high flow” as I’m running a 705 bhp LS7.

Thanks,

Greg

There have been other threads on this where the fuel smell is actually coming from the hoses themselves. Even the aeroquip type hoses are letting the fuel through at a molecular level.

I borrowed a gas analyser from work and got higher readings holding the probe beside a hose than I got with the probe down the barrel of the carb.

PTFE lined hoses are the answer.

It looks like someone has put on just normal one way check valves (flapper) which means they are open all the time unless the car rolls over!

It therefore looks like I need to install proper fuel vent valves which have a pressure and vacuum relief.

That said what do people do with the end the vents to atmosphere?

Mine has no valves at all.
The vent comes from the fitting on the side of the filler neck and goes straight down and is clipped to stick 1" below the chassis bottom rail. It is very small bore.
