BMW E39 - Which is cylinder 1?!

My E39 has a very rough idle and the diagnostics reckon there is a misfire on cylinder 1.

I reckon it could be the coil plugs. Which is cylinder 1, the one nearest to you when the bonnet is open or the one at the back of the engine?

Pot # 1 is at the front of the engine, 6 being at the bulkhead.

ETA, assuming you run a 6 pot E39
