£3000-4000 small, diesel

After a new car for my mum, it needs to be around the £3000-£4000 mark, be diesel and have A/C as it will be used in Italy.

I was thinking of a Skoda Fabia but didn't want to miss any alternatives?

I can recommend an Ibiza TDi! I have one and it's a great car but there don't seem to be many around though - I know as I'm looking for a newer model and there isn't alot out there!
