With unlimited funds, what 5 would you have? Retroforza body? 20B turbo engine? Body/interior/hood colour? Mk 1/2/3? Anything.

Always going to be a Mk1 for me,I would have a full from the ground up restoration then get it taken to about 300bhp but get gearing/diff sorted to give me past 135mph

Then I would more than likely put it in a ditch first time out and end up paying to have it done all over again hehe

KL-ZE with throttle bodies would be pretty tempting for the powerplant. Or the destroked variant they used in the BTCC Mondeos. bandit As long as its reliable and useable on the road.

I'd like a Mk1, in BMW Carbon Black. Black Elise seats. Full adjustable coilover suspension.
With an LS2 under the hood, straight through sleeved pipes.

hehe

If I won the lottery I wouldnt be messing about with MX5's! I'd hand mine over to someone and get them to restore it to absolutely perfect condition, chassis up - then I'd keep it as a reminder of where I'd come from.

But for the purposes of this thread - mine would look like a Mk1 but have all the Mk2.5 goodies, top spec supercharged engine, setup with plenty of suspension travel and absolutely top bks dampers to be a b-road weapon.

I'm sure you could taqke the body off of a Mk2.5 and fit a Mk1 body to it. It would be a fair bit of work to do the rear and the doors but all possible with the right expertise (i.e. enough money).

Unadulterated white Mk.1 (rear S-Spec spoiler and front splitter (black)) with more comfortable Mk.2 interior, Rota wheels (those nice dished ones), air con, Mk.2 engine (no rattly HLAs!), TorSen LSD, and fresh standard suspension (WiM geometry), supercharger conversion up to about 180bhp.

If I won the lottery I'd just buy a Chimaera though wink

Sounds they my kind of spec!

The only item I would probably add would be a 6 speed box with a tall final gear to make motorway cruising a bit easier.

Oh yes, thanks to the gear ratios and suspension I am bleeding from various orifices after a motorway run in mine frown

Ear-plugs are cheap ans effective when facing a motorway blast (mandatory with a hangover!) wink

ETA: I don't know about my ideal '5 as I don't own one yet, but i'd definitely like to try a Mk.3 with the Litchfield-fitted Cosworth supercharger, ECU, upgraded intake and exhaust, along with the AST suspension upgrade. All for a cool £7500 (on top of the price of whichever Mk.3 you buy). The evo article from last year suggested ~240bhp. Not sure if that would spoil the appeal of an MX5 or whether it would just be an absolute scream.

I'm fortunate to have had a high powered mk1 (280 bhp)
a supercharged mk2.5 and several mk3's

The only thing left for me was a cosworth supercharged mk3.

And I now have one........

I'm happy with my '5. It's "ideal" what I've wanted for the past few years achieved.

If I had more funds though, well, I'd buy a mk3.5 2.0 Sport Tech RC, supercharge it, lower it etc with the Air Dam bodykit wink

It does sound very nice. The reason I asked was because, after a couple of cold ones, I thought about what I'd really like to do to mine. Retro Forza body kit, supercharger, leather seats, new mohair hood with glass, and then realised that I'd be spending over four times more on the car than it's worth! That's not to say that it shouldn't be done though. biggrin
