I'm getting increasingly wound up with being tailgated when I'm out for a drive. Yes, it's a sporty looking bright red car, it doesn't mean I'm interested in racing you on the public roads when I'm out minding my own fking business! If it's not being tailgated, it's being overtaken when I'm just bumbling along to try and bait me into racing them, either that or to just prove a point that theirs is the 'hot' version of the car you thought it was. TBH I couldn't give a fk. I've got to be honest too, and I dunno why, but a lot of this seems to come from hot Audi/Vw drivers. Not that I have anything against them, or the cars, but it just so happens to be a recurring trend. Another thing I've noticed is that if you have anything other than a normal family car you get treated with pretty much zero respect on the road. Funnily enough I always give way where I can but this is never reciprocated.

Maybe I'm just a bit sensitive, but share your experiences! I'd imagine it's not just me.

I get it occasionally and don't even have a good car, happens all the time in my mates R32 people doing dangerous overtakes when he's doing the speed limit to get one over or something, it's a small cock thing I think

Sorry yazza, just looking for a race biglaugh

I know what you mean though, I especially hate it when I have the family in the car. I find the best way of dealing with it to slow down gradually on the motorway, and let them get past. On normal roads, always keeps a safe distance to the car ahead. I think all marques tend to do it, but it does tend to be predominantly younger drivers.

I'd agree with it being younger drivers, but I'm 20 and I don't drive like a prize tt! Thing is they think it's all fun and games, and maybe it is, until someone gets hurt and the poor bugger minding their own business is likely to be that person.

Not exclusively the young drivers, I'd say it's 50/50 chavs and middle aged guys in diesel saloons.

I find i get people tailgating me after I've overtaken them. Overtook an MR2 on one of the only overtaking spots on a local B road, as I pull alongside him he realises he's being overtaken so boots it, I'm pull in infront of him and he follows me about 5 metres behind until I overtake a van doing 40mph and he doesn't have space. Muppet.

I often get the same from BMW diesel drivers who all appear to take offence at their supercar being overtaken :S

Weird, I find the exact opposite. When I'm out in the VX I almost never get anybody tailgating me, even though in 30 and 40mph zones I'm pretty religious about the speed limits. I also can't even remember the last time someone overtook me on a single-carriageway road, even when I'm not in a hurry (although I don't often potter along significantly below the speed limit unless conditions dictate).

I'm also looking after my friend's car at the moment which is old and very uninteresting. Having driven that a bit recently I'm starting to understand the mentality of 'my other car's a Porsche' stickers, because the amount of hassle I get in that whilst driving it in exactly the same manner is enormous.

Never get anyone trying to 'race' me in the VX either, which always surprises me given how the car looks. I guess some people might try and race me and I don't notice hehe, but it's extremely rare that anyone tries to entice me into traffic light GPs or similar.

I get overtaken all the time when in the TVR, and as above, it is quite often the Vectra/Mondeo man.

Thing is, sometimes I dont think they are trying it on.

I really do think that alot of the time there are just trying to get on with their journey as quick as poss.

I find myself often overtaking sports cars in my Volvo and I ofhen think "I wonder if they think I am trying to race them" when in fact I am just trying to get on.

Paint ball gun at the windscreen usually does the trick.

I was going to ask that to. Some people need a little encouragement to get a hoof on.

But he's entirely entitled to do 50-55 in a national, and he's travelling slower than the car in front of him, a gap will open up for you to overtake into.

It's not difficult!

I am occasionally tailgated in 30 or 40 zones, as I tend to stick to the limit, however out on the open road I am rarely tailgated, and on Motorways or Dual carriageways, pretty much never.

Repeat: on Motorways or Dual carriageways, pretty much never.

I do know people who are regularly tailgated though, especially on Motorways and Dual carriageways. Having been out with them on such roads, I think I know why wink

On the contrary, it's very difficult. It only takes a couple of dawdlers to bunch up together then we all have to crawl along at 20 below the limit. I'm not condoning tailgating but dawdlers don't have cause a lot of frustration and are a menace in their own right. If they could just let traffic past that would be considerate.

Yep, this.

If its not younger drivers, its middle aged guys in their "sport" diesels.

The closer they get, the slower I go.

Fortunately most people don't bother with tailing the smart unless I've overtaken them for doing something daft like 40 in a 60. When I do that they go mental...
