Are quad bikes allowed to filter between traffic like you would on a motorbike? I ask this because I was driving down the A23 earlier and these two muppets on huge quad bikes were filtering between the two lanes of slow traffic, everyone had to cross the solid white line at the edge of their lane to let them pass.

They were this sort of width but with a normal quad bike body on top, not a beach buggy style body...

I've seen quite a few people driving quads in Leeds, and every single time they are being driven dreadfully, with C***s at the wheel/handlebars. They seem to attract the wrong type of person.

Disclaimer: I'm sure there are good people who drive quads sensibley and correctly - good on you/ However I have never ever witnessed this.

Oh these two were driving like tts as well, when a few cars cleared a path the second guy tried to pull a wheelie.

I'm not sure of the legality to be honest, but I cant imagine the police would look kindly to it if they were forcing other cars out of their lanes.

Unfortunatly a lot of the people who buy quads for the roads are the types who would be too stupid to ride a motorbike and think because the quad has four wheels its safe. I raced quads for a number of years and know they can be bloody lethal in the wrong hands.

Seen same too - they fking race them, pulling wheelies at the lights etc. Most not wearing helmets or any protective gear.

1 or 2 seem to be sensible enough though. smile

They're always driven by the same type. We were plagued by them round my way last year. I was wishing the bds would end their miserable lives painfully. Thankfully they seem to have got over it this year (or died).

Girlfriend's Dad has one and uses it on the road to the pub and across friendly farmers field on the return.

It's a quite big 450 so can move, he also has an S5 convertivle for none drinking nights and days.

All this and he is a pensioner.

The last time I rode a quad, a Honda Big Red 300cc, I ended up with my glasses in my eyes, and fifty-two stitches in my face. This was off-road without a helmet, falling down a small cliff.
I would hate to see the damage on a tarmac road, bouncing off cars and road furniture.

Group of about 8 coming into wolves earlier. Based purely on the way they dressed.... yikes someones going to fall off and get hurt. Although they didn't try any filtering that I saw, they were a "mass" 2 abreast etc.

I was wondering this myself after seeing one appear in my mirrors on the A4 on Friday. Judging by his road positioning/body language he was intending to filter and he appeared to be riding with a couple of bikes (but I can't be sure of this).

Didn't get to find out as I overtook several cars myself shortly after and didn't see him after that hehe

I agree that they tend to be ridden by complete wangers.

Bikes aren't allowed to filter unless there is sufficient room. If there isn't sufficient room then it is dangerous driving really.

I saw some pikey bloke on a white Yamaha road quad last weekend. I wouldn't have minded but it was in a public park, on a paved footpath and he almost ran myself and my partner over. I've never seen one of these 'road going' quads ridden by anyone who wasn't wearing trackies, a vest or no top and a kerb chain. Baseball cap optional. It was noisy even on motorcycle terms, and he popped a very out of control wheelie after he had almost run us over.

Basically a chav weapon of choice because they aren't skilled enough for a 'proper' two wheeler. I'd even go as far as to say that anyone who has a road going quad (not a farmer basically) is a twunt.
