Hi

So far you've all been a great help with regards to sailing :-) At the moment we're looking to go for either a trailer boat or a 25-30foot boat that we'd either keep in storage between uses or on a swinging mooring....however we're having trouble finding costs!

Does anyone have any info on the following?

1. Approx. cost of a 12 month mooring (berth or swing) in the Hamble area
2. Approx. cost of drystacking
3. Approx. cost of launch and recovery (of a boat in a drystack)
4. Costs for using a slipway with a trailer boat

Cheapest we found for a berth mooring was £3k per year, however we could not find prices on drystacking or swingmoorings. For launch we found £130 plus the same for recovery, and we could not find prices for slipway launching!

Thanks for any help, I guess I am probably not looking in the right place confused

Slipway charges are usually on the slipway websites. Typically £10-£20. Lymington is £16 now I think. I launch there, it's worth finding a nice steep slipway, that makes it much easier to launch from.

I would expect dry racking to cost in the region of £3k again. I think Southampton Dry Stack was £2k for my 6m RIB. The service is fantastic!! If you can justify the £3k outlay (or thereabouts) it's definitely the best option. It's easy, you turn up and they've already launched the boat, when you're finished you leave the boat at their pontoon and they lift it out and clean it for you after you've left for the day. What more could you want?! Also you don't have to antifoul the boat, you're changing anodes less often etc. Lots of my customers are now using dry stacks.

Best thing is to ring Hamble Point Marina and talk to them about mooring costs and dry stack costs. Also speak to Southampton Dry Stack as they're really helpful. We do a lot of work with them.

Does it have to be Hamble?

I've just brought my boat back from France last year, so did the big mooring search only a few months ago.

They're are cheaper places if you're on a budget (especially some of the smaller marinas in Portsmouth area).

Cheers, I just wanted to make sure the prices were about right that we were looking at :-)

Oh and we'd be ok with anywhere around Portsmouth, IOW, Hamble, Solent.

With regards to launching a trailer boat, does the fee include them launching the boat or is that purely for using the slipway? Last year whilst in France I noticed that it was €5 to launch on their slipways and that included them using their tractor rather than your car.

Thanks again!

Down here (Dorset) your looking at £4K-2.5K for a 30ft boat depending on whether your in a private or public marina, swinging (which are normally only available Summer 6months) are about 2/3rd to 1/2 the price depending on ease of access.
Lots of options for smaller boats but as you reach 30ft the choice is pretty much limited, although good service by everyone we've dealt with.
