I have to drive into London, Hackney to be precise after work on Friday. I'm coming from Oxford and leaving between 7pm & 7:30pm. Which would be the best route once i've passed the M25? AA says straight down the Marylebone Road but my cousin who i'm visiting says avoid it

Any ideas?

So you'll be getting into town for about 8-8:30? I reckon you'll be OK just sitting on the A40 all the way through to the M'bone Road, the Euston Road, P'ville Road, up the A1 and across the A104.

If you're really paranoid about the centre, go round the 406 from the A40 then down the A1. Beware the roadworks at the bridges at Ealing...

I was thinking the Marylebone Road wouldn't be too bad at the time of night so going straight may be easier

What part of hackney? At that time of day I would stay on the 25 to the a10 then head in through tottenham/stoke newington.

If you have any choice in the matter at all, leave your car in Uxbridge and get the tube (the street parking right next to the station is free after 7 IIRC) but otherwise as the guys said the A40 will be as good as any.

This is what I'd do. But Rule One of driving in London in daylight hours is "just don't". Do you absolutely need your car, and where in Hackney are you going? Because the train into Paddington, tube from Stanmore/Watford, etc are far easier...

I do it regually - sticking to the A40 is fine but is slow and stop start all the time.
Otherwise you can use the north circular ->A1 or a10 or a12 depending on where in hackney you need to go.

Normally I'd do this too, but the M25 clockwise on the western stretch is a no-go zone due to the road works at the moment, especially Fri pm rush hour. Can you go cross country to the M1 and then in on the A10 or maybe M11/A12 that way?
