Very sad I know to post about it, and you don't get anything like Airplane First Class but still quite cool for me biggrin

Have a meeting 'darn sarf' in London tomorrow so went to book my tickets last minutes as always hehe and for some reason its given me the return journey first class at the same price.

So tomorrow evening in Euston peak time I shall not be joining the 'peasants' biggrin

My ex got on the train t'other day with her Happy Birthday sash and badge on - she got an upgrade to first class and an announcement over both the tannoy and scrolling message screens!

Mind you, I guess being blonde, 21, big boobs and a bit crackers swayed the judgement of the conductor.

First class on the train is much nicer than cattle class. Although I wouldn't pay the full whack extra if it is only a small bit more then I would.
You get free tea, the seats are bigger, the carrage is much quieter. Its generally nicer and more comfy. Hence 1st class I suppose.

I prefer travelling by train than by plane anyway, nothing to do with being scared of flying or any of that nonsense, I just like not being treated like a totall idiot, not having to hang around each end for hours and all the other guff that goes with plane travel.

If we had a high speed railway in the UK that could get you from Aberdeen to London in less than 6 hours it would be worth taking the train over the plane to go down south, as the actuall time taken to get to your destination would be the same. The train picks you up in a more convinient place and drops you in the centre of town, rather than 30 miles out of the city.

Hopefully more money will be invested in the railways in the next 5 years, although I am not going to hold my breath.

I travel Northampton-Euston first class every day. It costs just over £600 a month but it's the only way I can be almost certain of getting a seat.

Took the family a few years ago non stop from Waterloo to Avignon, Provence. £150 each return, 1st class with loads of wine and excellent food included.

That is the way to travel.

I did about two years commuting first class from Nuneaton to Euston. This was back before the new trains and the difference between first class and cattle class was night and day. I still travel reasonably regularly on the new trains but I rarely bother with first class any more as the difference just isn't that great. The new seats aren't that different in comfort (although first are bigger and standard can feel a bit cramped if wedged in by a fatty), you get power points with most tables, and you no longer get the same standard of table service/food, which for me was the main benefit of travelling first class as I'd have my breakfast and supper on the train every day.

Just to cap it off the new trains make me feel sick with the lack of fresh air, quite why we can't have proper air flow if we can't have opening windows escapes me.

Train has stopped in Wolverton: reason given "Overhead line equipment failure in Wembley area". No timeframes yet known and created a backlog so may miss my meeting!

Thanks for reminding me why I refuse to use trains! Or any other form of public transport to be fair.

have you seen what its like in London? people watch the board like hawks and as soon platform is announced they run, and I mean full on run, with luggage to get seat. its like being in a third world country!

Doesn't surprise me - I avoid London too! LHR's about as far in as I tend to go. hehe

so-called first class yesterday on ECML... no catering staff... at all... poor guard was having to hand out crisps and water himself, nothing else around.

FFS if I knew I couldn't drink on the train then I would have driven!
