Brilliant day - thanks for doing a great job organising
First one for me, and will definately be back.
The only annoying thing for me, was stopping on the motorway a few times!!.
Seems like either bad tank of fuel, vaporisation or something else spooky - went for around 80 miles a strecth and then chocked to a halt until cooled down!! A bit embarassing at the M25 I must say

Help!! Anyone got any ideas?

This is scarey me posting on something like this, but could it be the coil?

Check the yellow connector in the steering column - open it up and check the contacts, the main one will probably be brown and scorched.
If so chop the wires and rejoin them with a new connector.

Also there's a big multiway connector on the nearside cylinder head - chopping all the wires one at a time and reconnecting them has improved the running of some.

It could also be the coil Dave - but I'd check the above first.

If you have no yellow connector check that the connections in its place are sound. This is best done in a field with scorcing sunlight and a hangover.

On a serious note I found I didn't have ~12V across the ignition a bit of extremely scientific wire wiggling and I did, hey presto it started.

P.s Someone saw me on the way home, as I witnessed a Gorgeous Red s (I think V8) go blasting by on the M5 whilst I had the bonnet up!

I had a similar and frustrating intermittent fault a few years back (not on a TVR). Was fyel starvation caused by a piece of rubber which had fallen into the fuel tank and occasionally got sucked on to the end of the fuel pipe. Of course once the engine stopped, it fell off and all was OK again. Took ages before I tracked it down!. If the electrics stuf doesn't fix it, it might be worth a go.

Hmmm... this looks like the intermittent fault I was seeing on my SCH trip... I suspect a broken or loose connection or fuel starvation. there didnt seem to be any pattern to when it happened and each time it happened it just cleared itself...

Theres no yellow connector - will check the wires anyway
will check the connection at the starter motor
will check the connector next to the O/S rockerbox
will replace the fuel filter (meant to do it during the winter refurb but ran out of time before SCH)
will inspect and remedy anything wrong with filter in the tank.

I have the star tester on its way back so if its more technical that wires or muck then I'll dig deeper.

snap - but it was a colapsed breather pipe. fix = turn engine off, undo petrol cap, air breathed in, close fuel cap, all was good. It was causing a vacuum effect in the tank!
