This isn't my area of PH to be fair, and this has probably been done to death.

How do you react when a friend says 'I've had a photoshoot done'. You know what's coming. White background, Smart-Casual B.H.S. catalogue cutting room floor, and awkward smiles.

Where did this come from ? Sometimes it's done right, but good grief some of them are bad.

I'm not pretending I can take pictures, I could do no better. I have a concious though, and am aware of the turd polishing rule.

If you have more examples of nu-school disasters, please share.

I once 'won' a photoshoot with a Venture agency near Leeds. I decided I'd rather not travel the 20 miles and got my dad to take some photos instead smile

I assume you 'won' the shoot but would have had to buy prints, at high price too.

A lot of people seem to like this tho.

Venture are spawn of the devil. I was told by an ex employee 50 pix in 50mins and aim to make £500 from each shoot. Dreadful clichéd house style. Any half decent pro and many a decent amateur could do far better.

I know that they had pictures of someone in the family who was tragically killed but they refused to sell/release the picture set; preferring to destroy them instead. bds.

Yep I 'won' a shoot. Huge pressurised sales pitch but I am 'ard and ran off with just the free one hehe And venture pictures stand out like a sore thumb, mine is similar to the the one posted.

I personally hate it. But recently we set up a stand in a kids play centre, with a lot of space to have 4 backdrops and all that, everyone bar 3 people went for the white backdrop stuff. I even had sample pics infront to show everyone what it'd be like but no one wanted them. 'I love the white backdrop style' is all i heard.
Now granted the feedback we got was all positive and everyone was happy, but its mind numblingly bland.

Like most tacky fashions, people want what everyone else has regardless of taste.

So it's not just me then, and yes the hand was chopped off.

Are Venture the crew who jump on you in shopping centres ?

Anyone have examples of more clangers ?

Venture are often in our local shopping centre and when they approach me either my wife says "Don't bother he's a photographer" or the best was when a chap said "Excuse me sir can I ask you what you think of these pictures?". I don't think he was expecting the critique I gave, and muttered "oh" and we left it at that!

Swmbo went and got a series of shots done over out little lads first year. She loves the pics. I, on the other hand, loathe them. All white backdrops, forced smiles, nothing even slightly natural about them. Told her that I'd have taken better pics, and could have bought a DSLR for less money than the series of pics cost. Then taken the pics to one of those canvas printing places, or printed on-line, for less. And we would have kept all the pics.

Ever since I got the DSLR I've been snapping away, and have got some truly cracking pictures of the kids. Playing, happy, in their own home environment. Everything about them is natural, not forced.

Astonishingly formulaic.

Not that there's anything wrong with a good formula. But that one really has got tired quickly.

They sometimes have props too as in - scarf with wire in it and a pair of goggles then get the person to sit down for "hilarious" shots of them miming that they are driving a car or flying a plane. I'm sure people have lots of 'fun' doing these things but I'd probably rather get photo'd with my cock up a camel and hang that on my wall.

rofl Errrr, are you sure you want evidence like that existing anywhere in the universe?
