What sort of moves into a Norfolk village and then complained about the noise from cockerels. Good to see the locals supporting the traditional way of life.

Almost as silly as those people who move into areas near a church and then complain that they find the bells offensive and against their religion... you either play by the rules your location or you can simply move in my opinion!

I do not think the Cockerel would like that too much.

Several years back a couple moved into the village of Alton in Staffordshire. This village just happens to be home to Alton Towers, which attracts tens of thousands of visitors every day.

Said couple then complained about the fireworks display which the Towers had hosted every year since time began (...almost...), fought them through court, and forced them to stop.

That's exactly what any expat it told when complaining about anything here. Whether it is bad driving habits, 200 quid a month broadband, 500 quid water bills, random speeding fines etc. Put up or feck off.

I really wish the UK would adopt the same attitude; I might consider coming home...

And what's the betting that the noisy 'immigrant' minority successfully persuade the Council to take action against the indigenous folk?

Not sure you lot actually know what you are talking about.

A cockeral can pretty much keep a ear piercing burst of sound going for 24 hours with about a two hour gap at night while roosting.

Shutting the bird in darkness for longer by putting it in a coop is the very least an allotment owner can do.

If you had a concentration of twenty or thiry cockerals on one giant allotment the sound would be continous.

A cockeral noise is not like a bird tweeting. To give you an example if a cockeral starts within a four acre site of you, the conversation has to stop til he's finished.

Normally in the country any cockerals within a short distance of each other will fight, or make territorial noises. Having cockerals kept in artificially close proximity using cages is encouraging the noise.

It could be this chaps just a townee, or he could have a legitimate problem depending on the number and how they are kept.

As ever with these threads, if all you have is the newspaper cutting, I'd reserve judgement.

It seems to me that the cockerels are being kept in a way that they don't like.

My parents have found, over the years, that if a cockerel has enough hens to service (7-8 per cock) they will crow (muted) to be let out in the morning, and they will announce to the world that they have just had a shag (the cads hehe ) apart from that he is quiet.

I have never experienced "ear splitting crowing", nor had to stop a conversation when a cock crows in a 1 acre garden, indeed you can carry on a conversation when you are stood next to them. It is just part of the sounds of the countryside. My parent neighbours are easily bribed with eggs, plucked and prepared table birds and pork chops when the time comes.

Trouble is that the Council listens to these stupid people.

The village I lived in has like most a Village Hall that held discos, wedding receptions, birthdays etc.

But after one person moved in next door and complained about the noise and even came in and turned down the CD player during a weight watches session! - Although they were frogmarched off the premises.

Now it holds nothing except jumble sales and coffee mornings and may have to close frown

I personally would sent the tt a bill for lost revenue.

There's always something like this going on in Norfolk,(probably in other rural areas too).
Recently there was a local councillor who moved into a flat in Norwich, which happens to back onto an old church called St.Andrews Hall. A venue used for concerts and the Norwich Beer festival.
The councillor complained about the noise from gigs that were going on in the hall, and as he was a councillor, he won. No more concerts.

There was also an incident where a couple who moved up from London to a village just up the road from me which has a WWII airfield which is used by light aircraft & the East Anglian Parachute Club. They complained about the aircraft traffic and nearly got the airfield shut down.

Why don't people do their homework first before moving ?

I would have sent the tt some leaflets about sound insulation, or 6 ton of horsest on his doorstep.

Probably the latter.

This is the problem, also the courts. They should be laughed at, not listened to.

Same goes for immigrant families moving into this country and changing things to suit them, imagine it was the other way round.......but lets save that for another argument.

So this is in the same hat as people who move near an airport and complain about the planes and the people who moved to Castle Coombe and complained about the track making noise.

Active Darwinism is way.

Pontins Blackpool closed down last year, the owners of the land have just been granted planning permission for about 350 new homes. Said land is right at the end of Blackpool Airport runway.
