Hi All,

I have a 3.0L z4 2003 and during the weekend the TC warning light came on a number of times (see picture below). I believe it could be related to the heat as when parked in the shade or driving at night it turned itself back off again. Does anybody have any experience of this, or know what it is? Is it something to worry about/expensive?

It's usually indicative of an ABS sensor having failed or failing intermittently. Get your mechanic to plug in the diagnostic tester as it will have recorded a fault code which will tell him specifically what it is.

A diagnostic check is usually round the £50 mark....

Not the same car, but my focus had the same problem with the wheel speed sensor (basically abs sensor) and it threw up the abs light, turned out to be one of the rear wheels. The sensor was £35+vat from Ford (Ford only part) and apparently BMW ones are around the £60 mark.

This didn't fix the problem though! ...it turned out to be one of the wires running to the sensor had corroded from where it's been stab tested in the past and not been covered up. So it was a simple cut the corroded bit out and solder back together!

They found the wire to be the problem on mine by using a voltmeter on both sides, one was reading 12v, the other around 3v... so make sure it's checked properly before you shell out for a new sensor. biggrin

I would guesstimate at about £100 at an Independent Specialist.

I would think it could be around that aslong as they find the problem quick and it's a simple fix.

Hi!

Had the same thing occur on Saturday on my 2006 3 series.

Independent garage said it appears to be a fault with the Brake Pressure Sensor that only BMW can sort it - at some huge cost - £800 !!! He reckons it is not that uncommon and that BMW are aware.

Going to the BMW garage tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Ouch, that is definitely not what I wanted to hear? Have been out in the car today in 27degrees and no warning lights so hopefully it’s ok! If it comes back I will have to take into an independent BMW specialist but otherwise I will just get them to have a look on its next service in a month or so

A friend of mine had exactly the same problem on the weekend the TC light came on during the hot weather, next morning went off again, i have advised her not to waste her money getting it checked out this time, but wait to see if it comes on again, then if it does, then get it checked out.
As i recall the same thing happened last year when it was very hot, the TC light came on for a while then off again next day, she had it checked out then as she panicked, but i dont think that it showed anything on a diagnostic check,if it did i don`t recall anyone telling her what caused the problem. Since last year it has been fine.Seems to me that its a bit tempermental in unusual hot weather

Late feed back from GedM - sorry!

There was an issue with the brake pressure sensor as advised earlier. It came up on my key fob at the BMW reception desk. After diagnostics got hold of it - cost £422 to sort - bad enough but at least this is cheaper than £800/£1,000.

Replacement part was £145 + VAT and 2 hours labour. Unlike your light which comes and goes mine stayed on - bum!!!!!!!!!

Happy days!

Over £200 for labour?

Never EVER use a main dealer for repairs. A specialist would have been £100 labour - tops.
