So i'm in Oz.. all i see everyday are Holden Commodores
Discussion
Oh and Utes.. apparently you're not cool unless you drive either of these.
So what's so special about them?
Another note:-
All cars get used for out here (mainly by young people) are for doing burnouts and "drifting" around roundabouts..
and they wonder why their death rate by road accidents is so high ?

Holden Commodore is the Oz version of the Vectra. There are lots of Vectras in the UK.
Ford Falcon is the Oz version of the Mondeo. There are lots of Mondeos in the UK.
I don't see what's so confusing?
Except they're a size up with much bigger engines and Rwd, and are much better cars in general. Still basically taxis though, and its only the people that own them that see themselves as godlike, not the rest of the public.Ford Falcon is the Oz version of the Mondeo. I didn't actually know that! Learn something new every day, sounds a bit like the US in that respect then, many deathtraps on wheels.
Well for reference, the weather here in Leeds has been pretty stonking, although I am a touch jealous I'll be sat in Uni doing an exam while you are out there having fun.
I think the falcon and commodore perceived "cool" association, is more to do with the bathurst touring car race over their, having watched the top gear re-run ,with eric bana as the S.I.R.P.C, the other day and the bathurst footage, they played of him driving his falcon, that he has apparently owned since he was 15yrs old, i am completely sold on one, wouldn't knock it till i had tried it.

I was also surprised at how many people can drive manuals but choose to drive automatics !
And I heard the weather has been nice for you ! It's a shame there isn't any nice beaches in england !

I used to live near Bradford by the way.. There's some places here that are just like it
we bought a 3.8 v6 holden commodore estate when we travelled down from cairns to sydney.
absolute beast of a car and just ate the miles.
people we worked with (rx7 and maloo owners) were always out at night doing 'skids' as they call them!
Burnouts are a huge thing out there, so much so that we would be parked up and a big v8 would go hairing past with the rears lit up ... on a normal road, during the day. bloody chavs!

Haha! I think there are more shredded tyres at the side of the road than road kill !absolute beast of a car and just ate the miles.

I must admit I see the draw of an auto, looking for my next car at the moment and seriously considering an auto or a semi auto style box.
If you see any HSV or FPV cars be sure to take a picture, the FPV falcons are delicious.

Bradford is a crap night out.. as are most places in West Yorkshire !
Leeds isn't too bad though, I must admit. And I see those everyday ! So it wont be hard to get pictures for you !
I bought a 1978 Toyota Corolla in Melbourne for $100 (no rego or mot (pink slip) and drove it across to Perth.
Took us six days and we went in convoy with three other cars, a Ford Falcon, and two Commodores.
They would both scream past us and around two hours later we would pass them at the petrol station, then 30 mins later they would roar past again, and again couple hours later we would see them again at the petrol station!
I did like the big Ozzy motors especially the MkV Ford Cortina with a straight six 4ltr as standard driven by an 18yo that picked me up while hitching!
I sold that Corolla four years (don't ask) later back in Melbourne complete with WA plates.
