Not real clear from the picture, but under the water pipes in the valley a small pool of oil gathers there. I didn't think oil was up this high to be leaking out so where would it be coming from. Valley gasket?
Certainly isn't a big job stripping off the plenum etc, (should have done it when the engine was out) But was wondering if anyone seen or done this before and does the valley plate just unbolt off once the plenum is removed

Well the valley gaskets and end seals are prone to leaking, they do a composite version now about £10 plus end seals, its quite easy to pull the complete injection system off in one unit, just remove the 12 bolts.
you can then remove the two clamps and replace both the end seals and valley gasket.
your need some RTV sealant for the end seals. only problem is you can't get a torque wrench into all the bolts when re-fitting, with the top on. but you can do 6 of them and do the other 4 by hand, they are about 30LB/FT

Check the engine breathers first, the crank case should be low pressure, therefore sucking, not blowing. Make sure the airway into the throttle body is clear.

Thanks peeps, I didn't know the valley gasket was a week point. I have a breather filter on the engine rather than the pipe going to the plenum and it is clean enough. The end clamp bolt in the picture was not really tight so I have nipped that up a bit and will see what happens on next run out. At least it is an easy fix if it needs stripped out

Well that might be where your problem lies, the plenum negative pressure should be sucking out of the crankcase. Are you running on carbs or something - why no scavenger pipe?

Thread resurrection!!!!

Nope, running as normal, I bought it with a filter fitted rather than the breather pipe to plenum. Been thinking about putting one back on but haven't as yet. Whoever fitted the filter, cut down the adapter that fits into the rocker cover, so will need a knew one of them. Its still leaking (of course, cos its not gonna fix itself) so will have to do something soon. Priced a valley gasket, end seals and rocker gaskets for £26. Teflon coated valley gasket it says
