Maserati Quattroporte
Discussion
you hear mixed things on these. My colleague bought a brand new GT-S i think it was (paddle change) and it was a disaster. Spent weeks in the workshop and cost a fortune in depreciation (thought the latter is to be expected from new)
And no im not a Maser basher, have owned 4 myself so probably better qualified than most..

The duoselect ones take a little bit of getting used to in order to shift smoothly, but otherwise it is a fantastic car to own.
I dont know why anyone would opt for a 5 series instead of buying a couple of years old QP. Well fuel economy may be one reason, as it struggles to get any higher than 16mpg... but who cares :-)

Ran a brand new QP GT-S for a year before trading in for my GranTurismo S. Fabulous car and the GT-S is certainly the one to go for if funds will stretch. Otherwise I would probably go for the auto version over the Duo Select as it is a far more robust system and a very good auto box.
In terms of costs, I didn't spend a penny other than for fuel and insurance. On a motorway trip it would do 20mpg if not being canned and didn't use any oil. It also came with 3 years free servicing (which is transferrable to a new owner) and nothing at all went wrong in 7000. Would thoroughly recommend them but make sure that it has been properly looked after and used regularly and you should be fine.

Thanks for all of the tips guys, I am currently debating between one of these and a convertible RS4, with around 40k to spend, which is at the lower end for the QP. So the duo-select is a manual gearbox operated automatically (like in the vanquish), and the auto is just an out and out auto (no paddles etc)?
I loved mine, DMS worked their magic on it which made a diff mid range.
It got a lot of positive attention and it was to all intents and purposes a 4 door ferrari. Made a great wedding car too.
The only downside for me was that it was huuuuge, very long and wide (and easy to kerb those lovely wheels)
I actually made money on mine and aside from a few small niggly things it was totally reliable.
Go and try a few though because they do differ.

I have a QP and an E60 M5. The M5 is harder, faster and more precise than the QP - no question. That doesn't make the QP a bad car, just that I don't feel that they are natural rivals. The QP, even in Sport mode, feels like a luxury cruiser in comparison to the M5 and I question how well the interior trim etc will stand up to daily use.
Good luck.

... ahhh, the perfect man to elaborate on the question! Good luck.
How does the M5 feel in soft suspension, 400hp mode, compared against the QP?
I like the idea of the M5 apparently having a dual personality..
