There's no doubt threads on the subject, but found nothing when I searched, so apologies in advance smile.

Anyway, my dogs (bh) pee is killing the grass, got lots of bald or burnt spots all over the lawn, has anyone found a successful way to stop this happening?

I've tried adding Tomato juice to her water, Green-UM tablets, watering her pee down when she's finished etc, but still it burns, even longer walks don't help as she likes to poo etc at home, first thing she does when returning from a walk is go to the lawn and drop her load rolleyes

If I could bottle her pee I'd make a fortune selling it for car batteries or as paint stripper! wink

Any thoughts
Matt

Swap for a dog! Other than that; could try making a small sandpit and train her to use it instead of on the grass.

Think you can train her to pee in a tray of soil? Or something like that? Bit like a cat litter tray but outside and for a dog.

Try adding ketchup into its food. Quite a bit of it. Smells disgusting but works on the OH's German Shepard really well.

Only problem with a separate area is the door tends to be left open most of the time so she can wander in and out as she pleases, might be worth a try though.

I've seriously considered fencing off he grass, but I think it would look odd biggrin

Possibly the oldmost common lawn question after moss. If watering down doesn't work then I think you've tried everthing. Train the dog, swap it for a cat or fence off the lawn...

There are garlic tablets available that are supposed to prevent this, although I've heard a bit of ketchup does help.
With regard to watering/diluting her urine....add bicarb to the water.

We use Easy Peezy for our Springer and it seems to be doing the trick http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?id...

My dad has success with this by adding tomato juice to the dog's food

My lawn grows like mad, in fact you can see exactly where she pees, as it's twice as long and twice as green as the rest smile. It's full of green patches around 12 inches in diameter.

I'd heard that only male dogs kill it ??

Friend of mine has grown a patch of really strong aromatic herbs for her dog to pee in. He prefers it for some reason, stops him ruining the lawn, and it doesn't smell.

I use a big squirt of tomato sauce into my dogs food everyday, it works! you get the odd patch but nothing noticeable and i have a big green lawn back garden to prove it. Hope it helps.

Thanx for all the suggestions, I'll try the Tomato sauce in her dinner first, I might keep her on the Green-UM atm too, hopefully the combination of both will allow me to have a decent lawn this summer biggrin

I think if that fails it's time to create a peeing section somewhere in the garden for her, She's a young Border Collie who's quite quick to learn so it shouldn't be too difficult, the hardest part will be where to put it as the way my garden has been done space is limited.

Thanx again
Matt

Just a quick update, I've been adding the tomato sauce to her dinner as recommended here also we got the dog rocks a day or so after I made the thread, our grass is the best it's ever looked, no burnt patches and the bald spots are recovering nicely!

So thanx for all the help on the subject PH'ers thumbupsmile
