quick question.
I've been to le mans a fair few time but never bothered to go to the drivers parade. Is it really worth it?
Last time I was planning to go but the queue's/heat/walk and potential for massive queue's on the way back meant i thought better of it.
What goes on (apart from the drivers....on parade!) ??

OK in the main town square is where the parade Starts from. The drivers normally sit in the rear of an open topped car signing autographs and throwing out various trinkets into the crowd. The route is normally barrier ed off and the crowd line the barriers around the town. There are lots of bars open and music blaring out at various points around the town after and during the parade. In the main starting square, there is normally a line up of top supercars for the crowd to look at and also the local chapter of the Harley Davidson club ride in front of the open top Driver cars with the passenger holding up the car number I've been to Le mans a fair few time but never bothered to go to the drivers parade. Is it really worth it?

Its refreshing to go into town to get away from the dusty track (if sunny) and chat with friendly locals and there are also a few young ladies to google at 
Ive been a few times and normally end up having a meal in a restaurant ( before having to put up with chicken and chips for the rest of the weekend) 
Don't know from a spectator point of view but I took part in the parade last year, and it was a shambles from an organisational point of view. Great lineup of cars on parade though, Zonda's, a Tesla, a Gumpert, Caparo T1 (didn't burst into flames!) Spyker, C Type Jags, D Type Jags, DBR Astons, some XIs of course, etc etc.
There were hordes of people there lined up along the route and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Cars were on display from about 3pm in the centre of town, then the parade started at about 6pm IIRC.

We've taken part in and viewed the parade a few times. First off go by tram it's great. Last year we drove to the station at the university complex, parked in the new car park and caught the tram.

te. We took some LeMans newbs with us to the parade and was gutted for them. Problem last year was that all the drivers got out of the old cars and walked round. The parade route is longer than it used to be so this took ages and ages...... There was also no dancing girls......
We're in it again this year so I hope it will be back to normal organised caos

Anything organised by the French is "ow you engleesh say, crap"
Will it start anywhere near the official start time ? who knows. Will all the drivers be there ? maybe. Will they go slowly through one part signing autographs then zoom through another to make up time so you miss them ? probably, will you walk for ages to get the right spot then realise its the wrong spot ? probably yes. However, many people say its great. Personally, we did it twice and won't be going again.

Even if I couldn't get into the enclosure, it's a bloody good afternoon sitting in the pub and drinking a few cold beers.

I'm on the PH site as well, will be doing the pitlane walk early Friday afternoon, then Tram into Le Mans to try and get a good spot (near a bar) for the parade..
I would imagine this is how *most* people will be doing it, feel free to join us or we could try and arrange a group from the site???

Last year we went via tram, Very easy to get to..... but i think if you want to see anything, you need to go early on to get a place with a view worth having.
We came tot he conclusion that its a lot of hassle for not alot of viewing unless as i say, you are there for a while before hand.
