Hire a car to someone under 21?

Does anyone know of any hire companies that will hire a car to someone under 21? Ideally in Scotland

As far as I know Hertz are the only company who will, albeit with some provisions - the hirer be over 19 and hold a current student ID card, must have held a full driving licence for more than 1 year and must have a valid credit card in their name.

Otherwise, there was once a company called Rent a Dent who advertised in the back of private eye...they gave me a car when I was 19...although I had to provide my own insurance. Also, it was an old, old Fiat Uno whose engine would die when you depressed the accelerator. You had to leave the choke out and just use the clutch to move forward.

Don't overlook the £16 a day insurance surcharge for "under 25's" over and above all usual hire costs.

Yes, that's equivalent to just just £5,750 a year.

most places will hire if you provide your own insurance...hired a van to move house when i was 20 despite them not hiring to under-21s

Sixt let me hire a lovely Peugeot Partner (named Juan )in Spain when I was only 18. Unfortunately in the UK their minimum ages is 21, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Get your car written off, then if you're fully comp you get a hire car. Worked for me!

Hertz, but they charge a Young Driver Surcharge and restrict the range of vehicles offered.

Streetcar is 19+ although they charge extra unless one can prove 2 years NCB.
As has been said, Hertz will hire with a student card Hertz Connect car club will too.
