Firstly - 'hi'! I bought a 83 SC 6 months ago to replace my TVR S and so far have been very pleased with it. It survived a 3k 2 week thrash around Europe (but unfortunately now spends way too much time locked away in the garage...)

Anway, its a boring question - but an important one... I've done a search through the old forum messages, but drawn a blank on advice on who I should use to service it - as the scary first one since I bought it is now due.

I was intending to use JZ Machtech, mainly because they advertise a lot and I'm easily swayed by colourful expensive full page ads!! But based in N.London, I see that there are a number of others in near distance (in no order): Chris Turner, Autofarm, Porschembri, Jaz.

I know the whole issue of praising/dissing a specialist is a bit dodgy - but if anybody has good words to say about them please reply - and if something bad, perhaps you could email me. Additionally, if you know of anybody better please let me know.

Andy

PS I must get my profile updated with a nice piccie of the Porker...

Poschworx (near Swiss Cottage) is a small, but very competent workshop, run by Mario Macheras, a fully-trained specialist. He looked after my 928 for nearly seven years, and I wouldn't have kept going back if he hadn't been so good! He handles only Porsches and mainly 911s, but I've seen Boxters and, of course, 928s there.

I have no connection with him other than having had excellent service from him over the years.

I use Tognola Engineering in Datchet (near Windsor) for my 944. Very knowledgeable. He certainly knows his 911s and has a beautiful 993RS which I drool over every time I'm there.

I would recommend JZ Machtech, I've used them exclusively for the past 5 years for both my 944's. They always have a selection of older cars as well as the more modern machinery. They are not the cheapest independant specialist, but I believe them to be very fair and honest

I recently bought a 944 S2. The guy I bought it from spoke very highly of JZ MACHTECH.

I have some work done by JZ MACHTECH since then and found them very knowledgeable and cheap too. They had a wide selection of older Porsche’s, which for me, was comforting.

He had also used Chris Turner, but said that JZ MACHTECH are slightly cheaper.

You may want to consider hartech. (www.hartech.u-net.com) I can't remember where they are based though.

They have a lifetime service plan that is very interesting. Depending on which car you have, you are charged a flat monthly fee which you have to pay. In return you will have your car serviced and mot'd by them. Any faults they will fix and not charge you for. As far as I can remember, general wear and tear is also included (brakes and discs etc.), which is great. but they stipulate you cannot use your car on track-days. (which really sucks!!!)

This is all out of memory so don't quote me on this...

hope this helps.

Also try Southway. They are based in Wembley and specialise in BM's Merc's and Porsche's.
