Aerial Location
Discussion
Can anyone tell me where the aerial is located on my 2000 Chimaera 450?
I get no radio reception at all just static and I'd like to see if there is anything I can do to fix it before I decide to spend money on alternatives. It is connected correctly and powered from the (new) head unit but still nothing.
I've been looking at the glass mounted / amplified aerials available from Autoleads etc and the ModWise kit if the standard part turns out to be scrap. Does anyone have any experience of using these in the Chimaera?
I love the sound of the RV8 but on a long trip I'd like the option of Radio 2 also (old before my time!).
Thanks
Ian

Mine I think is above the windscreen. However I fitted a Modwise one many years back and the reception is now tolerable - I can more or less sustain a radio station whilst driving around sussex, although signal strength not strong enough to pick up auto search. Once locked onto RDS though it does hang on.
On mine the copper strip is round the top of the back lip of the boot.

Just to follow up, I bought this in the end, installed it above the fuel tank & it works very well.

On mine i can confirm that that the cables (Black one and bare metal ground) which run up the left hand pillar and across the top of the windscreen to the center in between the sun visors to where there is a recess in the GRP. Which houses the meta radio antenna i can supply pics if you like as i am just in the middle of getting it re-trimmed. You can not gain access to it without removing all the vinyl in that area which i would not recommend. I am just about to relocate it to the boot and replace it with a DAB one.

Any chance you can post a new link directly to the EBay listing.
Many thanks, could be interesting for us all.
May I make a suggestion? For about £100 you can get a Bluetooth radio, which is also great for hands free.
Presuming most people have an iPhone or similar, you can use a radio app and connect your phone/ radio to your in car speakers. Works great for me. I have an iPhone and use a 3 SIM card for £15 a month which is all you can eat data !! 300 minutes and 3000 texts. It's a great deal, even better at the moment as the same sim is only £10 on amazon

Mobile data coverage is bloody awful in many locations though ... but good idea if you can do it.Presuming most people have an iPhone or similar, you can use a radio app and connect your phone/ radio to your in car speakers. I'm hunting for a stereo that will either take an internal hard disc or a USB hard disc and not just a iPhone / iPod...
Phil
Phil most radios have a USB port and can connect to most phones, music wise they also have a jack to connect to any phones head port so you will always have music.
I agree that network coverage can be patchy, but as an alternative to poor radio and aerial reception I think it's a no brainer. Even with a good radio and reception there is no guarantee you will always get a good reception, so the phone idea is a no lose situation. The radio app I use, tune in radio, can also buffer the channel you are on and continue where it left off if you choose pause
Lester
Also I reckon you can connect a portable hard drive via the radio USB port as well, why do you want an internal hard drive ? The chimaera drive is already hard enough lol
