Just curious really.

considering the prices of them, and how much people like to build kit cars.

anyone brought a set of plans and got stuck in on a boat ?

I built one once.
Not a big flash one, but a wood and fibreglass rowing boat which I fked an outboard onto.
Good fun and very satisfying.

it's on my list of things to do, I plan to build a near-replica of a Riva Aquarama, I've built a scale one and have some plans for the full size knocking around somewhere!

In one of the yacht magazines this month there is an Ozzie who built his own yacht smile

Quite fancy a go myself.....but just know it'll end up looking like an abortion with a sail jammed in the top laugh

My father-in-law and I got these 1:1 scale plans in 2006. wink

Yes, you can see light through the hull in places.

The old deck was removed with a spoon because it was so rotten and many new ribs were fitted

Probably still a bit easier than scratch building, but it still took us 6 months (he's retired, so was working full time on it!)

There is a little bit of info on my dad's latest project here:
www.tnielsen.co.uk/kochi.html

The hull and decking was built in Cochin under my dad's guidance and was shipped back to the UK for him to fit out & rig etc. On the way back some muppet dropped a container crane hoist on it and snapped the stem so it was off to Nielsens to get fixed.

Once she is rigged and ready for sailing I hope to get a load of the photo's together.

Didn't you post some pics of this some years ago?

I LOVE Bristol Channel pilot cutters and I WANT one!

I also love Scilly Island pilot cutters and want one of those too.

Will she be sold?

I might have done, I can't remember to be honest. I know that I have mentioned her before. This one isn't going to be sold (she was originally) but he may make some more. They are lovely looking boats and of course, are pretty handy out at sea too.

Here are a few pics, there are a few from the early build and then on launch day. We will get them altogether some time but probably wait until she is sailing.

Not too sure to be honest. I know it's an Indian hardwood. Tracking down the wood for the spars was a bit harder apparently so when he found some that met spec, he got a job lot!
