I will be visiting Cape Town for the first time over Christmas this year.

Any recommendations for "must do" motoring and motorsport activities and routes to drive?

Hire yourself a Cobra and just drive out of town Roman style roads straight as a die that disappear into the distance.
You will notice that the Road kill is somewhat bigger than you see back over here. hehe

The roads are to die for, where will you be staying?

When he says they're to die for, he means the potholes will fking kill you. wink

Some good roads out toward Parle (sp), I found some terrific quality roads whilst over there, I would have loved to have had the Tuscan or the Chim with me.

IIRC there's a place in Cape Town that had a Green Chim for hire, it also had some Cobra's as well IIRC.

If you need any info on Cape Town or Garden Route then drop me a mail or post over in the mods. smile

All the roads are great out there... Even the N2 when you are driving to mossel bay area is fantastic... There is a section I think just after Somerset West which takes you through the mountains.

Great roads....

As regards to motorsport activities, I spent a day going over the sand dunes in a 4x4. We took my brother in-laws 4x4, a few beers and a picnic and had a great day. The dunes are owned by a farmer and then he sends you out with a guide. Great fun, not sure what it is called but its near vleesbaai and fransmanhoek.
(Again this just outside mossel bay and not cape town)

Cape town is mountain pass teritory. You could spend the whole day playing in the passes. Just be carefull as there are a lot of bikers [and cars with similar ideas]. Almost casualties every weekend on these roads.
We could ride there from 6am to 3pm and never do the same road twice!

Even if you're not going, worth checking out the website. This is how many other car sites should be smile
