There isn't really much difference between 2000 and 2003, 2003 is just win2000 sp5

Unless you are running SQL Server and IIS and even MTS I believe Datacentre Server would be pointless.

Stick to the normal one, cant go far wrong with that.

I would run the standard edition - it seems up to what any reasonable network would require. It is pretty well locked down tho which whilst is good from a security point of view can be a bit of a pain in the ar*s, having a fair bit of issue with setting up my vpn at the mo'

It's worth using Windows 2003 if you're doing web stuff - IIS6 is a big improvement! Windows 2000sp5 it is not - much better OS.
As for the version you use, it depends on what you're doing with it and the spec of your server. Datacentre is designed to run on a particular set of hardware devices, though I've never tried to run it on anything other than approved hardware.
Generally, the standard server product is fine, unless:
- You want to use clustering
- You've got a high spec server (lots of CPU's and memory)
- You want to use advanced resource management
- You intend to use multiple load balanced servers
- You need advanced Terminal Services functionality

For a basic, low spec SQL/IIS machine, use std.

Try the Small Business version. It's really ratehr good. Limited to 75 users, but nobody's family is that big.

What's it not doing. I had a few problems installing it. There's a point that it is prone to hang on.

Registering Componenets its really slow.

But when it does install and i enter password. The screen goes all pixelated and it crashs. But its works fine in safe mode.

It looked good on paper having exchange and other stuff build it. It would have made my life a bit easier

Have you read the Hardware Compatibility list?
I'd guess your graphics card may not be on it!
