Chaps,

I've recently purchased a 1995 E36 323i project car and only received one key. Is it possible to get another key cut by a local locksmith or are they coded to the ECU? I'm not too concerned about the alarm fob, just requiring access to the car and starting the engine - I basically need a spare for if my main key ever was mis-placed.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

there is a chip inside the key so it won't start with a Timpson's special.

BMW are able to order you a new key, and they aren't too expensive

Just to add, the only key I have has a thin/round/flat body, embossed with the BMW logo on one side. The alarm fob is a separate unit.
