This may be a bit of a generalisation so I apologise before hand.

But why do Black people not seem to age as quickly as White people, or to say it in a different way Black people tend to look younger for the same vintage.

Anybody else observed this and is there a genetic reason? confused

I think black and asian people have less grey hair, and many have better skin, than white people.

Why do you ask?

I'd have thought with the primary reason for dark skin being to mitigate skin damage from UV then yes, they do get less wrinkles.

Don't forget even on the cloudiest days the UV is coming straight through the clouds and beating your face about.

Just an observation I have made before but my train of thought was started by Ian Wright on that 5 show.

I then thought of Gazza not a comparison wink but that was what I was thinking of.

More to it than genetics. Blacks don't get so much sun damage, but that doesn't really explain the Orientals. You are also more attuned to the signs of ageing of your 'own' racial group.

Well, they say that you never see baby Chinese people flying around Trafalgar Square but only see fully grown Chinese people. Do baby Chinese people exist? Or was that pigeons?

I wish I knew the answer to this one.

I've a West Indian friend who is well into her 60s, but with her Beyoncé flicky wig and green contacts, you'd think, 40? 45 at most.

As someone else has said, it's due to the amount of Melanin people have. White people have less than Blacks do, that's why it's important to always wear sun protection, even on cloudy days. Look after your skin and you'll age just the same as black people do.

Definitely this. I used to think the same of Asians, but living in Thailand I've actually learned to notice different things. People here don't tend to sag, pile on weight or go grey the same as we do but the signs are definitely there, and now I can tell ages much more accurately than I could when I first came here.

Disagree about black people though. Remember Desmonds? He looked ancient.

Trust me - go bald, and you soon learn to wear a hat in the summer, even when it's overcast.

I think it depends on your frame of reference.

I once saw a young (white) lass at a supermarket till call over her superevisor to verify that a chinese gentleman was over the age of 18. He exclaimed - "but I'm 40!"

If you aren't used to seeing as much of people of a different race you don't know how they age with the same level of confidence.

Maybe it's that?
