The Didcot power station towers, if you like the 'springfield' look.

In front of the windmill at Brill (yes, I know it's just over the border into Bucks, but it's not that far from Oxford).

ETA: don't Autocar often take pics under the Bridge of Sighs in Oxford?

It's really quite easy... You just drive up to the gates when it's open, hand over a few quid and Bob's your Uncle! thumbup

The raf base with the funny dishes and aerials off the a43 or perhaps Bicester Village? There's bound to be a couple of interesting characters at the latter;)

Ooohhh, can I come and watch if you try taking photos there? I'll open a book on how many seconds you get before some uniformed officers with guns 'politely' suggest you take photos somewhere else! biggrin

That is RAF Croughton and is one of the main 'listening posts' for the British security forces... wink

The signs now say RAF... Have done for a few years - since the USAF 'pulled out' of the UK wink

Yeah, right...

Actually, I know someone who accidentally drifted over there in a hot air balloon... He had to do some very fast talking to avoid being returned to terra-firma a little bit more rapidly than he would have liked! biggrin

I believe it is still a USAFE run base at Croughton. Even when the USAFE had more of a presence in the UK all the bases they used were still referred to as RAF bases. Fairford and Upper Heyford are two prime examples.

Croughton is indeed still a USAF base, living pretty much next to it means I get to see a few tasty yank motors every now and again.

Bliss Mill near Chipping Norton is a very interesting building surrounded by hills. It would make a great background.

not exclusively USAF - there was a 'true' RAF bit, at least up until a few years back when my dad retired from being the senior bod of it.

and as others have said, all USAF bases in UK have always been 'RAF' xyz...

Back O/T - What about somewhere like Harwell or Culham? At Harwell you have the new Diamond Light facility:

That's a good idea. I was thinking along the lines of somewhere up on the Ridgeway in South Oxfordshire. White Horse Hill perhaps. But i would imagine it's difficult to get the cars positioned good for a shot.

must admit I've not tried - but it is outside of the licenced site so unless there is a fence round Diamond itself, should be able to get reasonably close, weekends would be best obviously as less workers in filling up any car parks.

South of Swindon you've got Hackpen hill, on the Broad Hinton to Rockley road:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&am...

There's a white horse, a long winding road, a carpark at the top with long views over the valley

Or don't discount the top of carparks. They seem to work quite well.
