Can I go to New York, see my mates and buy a Cannon Eos 10D with a decent lens and bits for less than buying it over in the UK assuming I post the receipts and credit card records to me at home and argue with the customs parasites?

Would it not be easier for your mate(s) to buy the camera and bits and post it to you (well wrapped up)?
