About to start constructing a base for a garden shed, ( 12x8 ), been looking around on different sites for prices, they vary quite a bit, any suggestions or experiences of where to buy.
Thanx.

I'm just getting a 10x8 t+g shed delivered (and put together) tomorrow. Found the seller on ebay.

There seems to be a bunch of them around the midlands area obviously buying in from somewhere else and then reselling on there.

Quality sounds/looks much better than a lot of alternative places I came across with the bonus of being relatively cheap. I'll find out tomorrow quite how good/bad it is!

Have you a name of the firm where you're buying from, ( or a link to the ebay auction ).
Would be good to know your thoughts when it arrives.
Thanx.

I used www.waltons.co.uk for my 6x8 with one of their Portabase ground settings. Screwfix sell their kit with a 60% markup.

Whole project came in well under £400 iirc.

You might be able to use 2 6x8 portabases - it was far easier than building concrete or paved hard standing.

This is the company I'm using, cost including delivery is £460.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Delivery is this afternoon...

I was previously going to go with a seller called mbsheds - but he suffered some form of fire with all his stocks going up in smoke!

Pretty much the same price though.

+1 for Waltons - they seem to be of a better quality than a lot of the others. Buy direct and they have some reasoanble prices as well.

+2 for Waltons. They go up square and stay square.

Sorry, been meaning to reply to this thread.

Well, it's an OK shed but nothing special.

I'm not happy about the floor bearers, I plan to raise the shed and rest it onto some alternative bearers I've managed to scrounge.
I've repainted it with some wood paint to try and seal it a bit more - I don't trust the treated at factory paint.
I plan to put some edging strips on the corners (got some suitable strips I can use for 4quid total from my local timber place).
The T+G seems a little thin to me at the tongue part and the internal wall posts are thinner than I'd like.
The windows are held in with a glob of silicon sealent at bottom against some strips of wood lightly tapped in. I plan to do a better job of that with putty.
The wood edges are rough - I've lightly sanded most of them to get rid of splinters and doors are a little flimsy.

The one drawback of the inclusive delivery/erection is that it doesn't give you a chance to easily tweak it/optimise it as necessary. I'd certainly have haggled with price to put it together myself next time.

I can certainly tweak it to last longer than it may do without treatment - I'd say if you go for this shed quality, you'd also do a few tweaks to try to extend it's life.

However it did get me thinking about how much you need to spend to get a good quality shed - I do wonder if it's a *2 or *3 type adjustment to the price. Given I'm not expecting to be in that house in 3-5 years time, I couldn't justify spending significantly more on the shed. (I was kicking myself for not getting the shed a year ago when the same shed was about 100quid cheaper...)

Can see the floor bearers here - quite small.

The underneath of the roof. Two sections for rough and they put the 3rd bit of felting on top during erection.
Note the untreated wood.

Goes up pretty quickly, but all nailed in. I'd have screwed it together (the other ebay seller says they screw it together. Wish I'd used them but nagged to get shed sorted now wink.

All done, your problem now sir! smile

Thanx for the reply, you can definately tell the difference in qaulity of some of the sheds I've been to see, but then again at twice the price I suppose you are going to get a different spec. item.
My base is now finished, so it's decision time.
