Little tt up the road has put a 'sports' exhaust on his gay plastic moped thing, sounds like the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, how can such a puny fking engine make so much fking noise? and why do the little punks keep revving the fkers, blipping the throttle a zillion times a second? I imagine it's given the thing a boost in power from spectacularly poor to just plain embarassing.
Is there a limit to how much noise one little st can extract from such a dismally awful form of transport?

If it's a 2 stroke (most likely) then quite a bit of power can be released by changing the exhaust.

This does of course depend on exactly where the main restriction takes place - but more often than not the exhaust is a good starting point.

I don't know about now - but in the 70's when my late brother was a biker - his first 50cc 2 stroke had quite a bit of power liberated by simply removing the internal baffle.

He did the same thing with his bigger 2 strokes bikes as well.

And yes - the noise if irritating to say the least - we have one or two where I live as well.

They do it because they are young and like loud things.
I recall riding my 125cc 2 stroke bike without an exhaust at all and it took about 10 minutes before even my 16 year old ears started to practically bleed from the racket this thing was producing. Loud just doesn't cover it, although in my defence it was in a field with nothing around for miles.

Little sts round here do that, and the problem is because they are restricted to 30mph, it takes ages for the noise to go away!

If you want to be wide, get on the phone to the BiB.

If the exhaust has been changed i'll bet the restrictor has been taken off too.

That'll teach them.

If you want to hear cretins with pointlessly loud exhausts make a trip to Exeter. Chav zorst capital of the UK.
