The youths stopped when they heard the music and walked away with Happy Faces

That's a rather flakey approach, might have been better to have coned off that area.
Perhaps it's the new softy approach though.

Back in the 80's I did a few shows for a band called "The Truth", bit of a right wing mob.
One night we did a show in the 100 club, Oxford Street, my monitor engineer took exception to the lyrics of one of the support bands and turned the monitors off, band stopped playing and the audience (promotor had sold nearly three times capacity and the place was rammed) turned to face me. Sensing that they were about to riot, I throw the first tape to hand in the player. Stroke of luck, fate call it what you like, but as I un-muted the tape the sound of the 'Hamlet' ad burst out loud and clear. Those opening notes 'dun dun dun' saved me, the look of bewilderment on those facing me I still recall. Still got a tape in the loft somewhere with the next bit, as I had shouted 'Ok you can do one more'. They introduced it as 'The PA man's a c%nt' and did a version of the Clashes I fought the law and changed the lyrics to "the PA man won".

So full marks to the copper and stuff the whingers.

NB: Promotor got jailed a month later for organising dog fights and he thought I had bottle for doing what I did

+1 Full marks to the copper.

Anyway, are the 'senior'rolleyes 'pc' officers missing the trick?

IT WORKED!!

"The youths stopped throwing the bottles. However, police accept that this was not an appropriate action.

Spot the PC words 'not an appropriate' action.
What would have been? Something that caused a bigger riot? Tossers.

I'm suprised everyone is laying into the copper, if it's stupid but it works then it isn't stupid.

Anyway, bloody kids need a good calippo round the ear.

Couldn't help thinking of "No Surrender to the IRA" from an ice cream van.
