I'm not really the most bike friendly person in my car as I get frustrated sometimes at getting held up (although it should be noted I pass with plenty room and don't beep the horn at them!) but I've bought one. Nothing special; a Carerra Gryphon from Halfords for the princely sum of £290 to be specific. Only bought it to cycle the mile or so to work and back as well as nipping to the shops as walking is boring and driving impractical.

I quite like it...going downhill requires zero effort and going up them makes me feel better for doing it (at the top of course!) as if I'm honest I need the exercise. It's a hybrid so it's a cross between a road bike and mountain bike, giving the best of both so it's quite light and quick but has comfy straight handlebars and lower ratios on the rear cassette. I have realised though, you've really got to be aware of whats going on around you as cars and trucks seem a lot bigger and faster when you don't have metal body panels to protect you! All in all, I think cycling to work might make me a better driver and a person with a few less chins.

Get amongst it!!!

The excorsize and general 'being outdoors' will make you feel good, and having a cyclists point of view will make you more tollerant of them, you won't get stressed out, all in all you'll live a longer, happier life.

Not bad for less than £300!
