I've got a weird electrical sounding whining noise coming from about where the alternator is in the engine. It's a bit hard to tell cos the engine is so loud itself. It increases with rpm and when you're driving sounds a bit like engine feedback on speakers. Does this sound like my alternator is about to die or is it something more scary???
Battery still charges OK & performance is still bang on.

Has you battery been run low? If so the noise could just be the alternator working hard and is normal but should stop when battery fully charged. If not that suspect alternator bearings worn and new or recon one required soon.

Battery has been fine so I guess alternator is about to die.
Cheers.

I had the same set of symptoms in my Chimaera. Got it reconditioned for about £40 IIRC

I had this, ironcally on the way to a service, had the bearings changed in the alternator - fixed - not expensive either -£30-40
