Hi Guys

I'm looking for a little advice from 928 owners.....

I'm looking at getting a new car, been a tvr owner for the last 3 but fed up with the constant repairs (not so much the cost just the constant time away).

Anyway looks as though the car is going and I should have about 12.5k to find a new toy and was thinking of the 928.

Would like to know if they need the constant tinkering you get with TVRs and if they are ok as a daily hack.

My other option is to take out a loan so I can top my 12.5k to buy an early 90s Carrera 2 ???

I forgot to ask.... if I do go for the 928 what sort of things should I be looking for ???

I think for the cash I got, I should be able to get a GT from around 90/91.

.....or again should I get a small loan and go hunting for a GTS ???

Hello piggy,

I have an old TVR (2500-M) and some wasserpumpers. Look up my post log and you'll see a lot of info about the 928, including my imagestation link and 928 page.

I drive a '83 every other week, transitioning with two 944 cars. It's a blast, quite reliable, and more and more rare these days. Personally, I like the older versions as they are a bit less complicated, but can have some issues due to age. Basically, if you tend to the timing belt like an adult, and replace the fuel injection relays, you have probably taken care of the lions share of issues. There will be the usual temp II and thermo time switch issues, but hey, if you're a whiner better get a Toyota.

I'm not mechanicaly minded myself, I tend to get stuff like that done in the service...... I don't realy mind paying and have got used to that with the Chimp, it's just that the Chimp can't even usualy make it to the 6 mothly service with out having an intrim visit to the dealership for one thing or another grrrrrrrr

I like the idea of somthing younger that 1990 with less than 100k onthe clock <--- I know I should realy get over this but after the mare with the Chimp I'm going to err on the side of caution.

It has certainly left its scares, I'm half thinking of getting an Audi A6 *yawn*

Come-on-over! You'll appreciate Porsche engineering, especially if you've been able to put up with the TVR that long. There will be some issues, as with all cars, but a 928 is a lot more car in many ways. Not necessarily faster, but a LOT more car.
