V8S

I am looking at a V8S. I have had a few Chimaera's before, and looking at getting back into a TVR.
The S I am looking at is Pre Cat and I am told the engine is quite different to the later Catted ones with regards to power delivery etc.
Also that some have a 4.3. This might be a daft question is it identified on the rocker or plenum badge, or in the paperwork or, a case of looking on the ECU. ( This the way to identify a true 4.0HC from a standard 4.0 Chim ).

Like all TVRs some were built with bigger engines as upgrades but no way of telling I'm told. TVR don't even label standard cars correctly on the V5 never mind modified cars.

Good choice tho, much more fun than a chim

Thanks mike. Last Chim was a very low mileage mint 500, but sold due to moving abroad. I used to service and look after a good friends S1.5 which I really liked. The Chassis was Waxoyled from new so it was mint on the underside I looked at a good number of S's before buying my first Chim 4.0HC but struggled to find a complete good car. Anyway going to have another go at finding one...but poss V8S. Quite like the look of this, I have some Chassis photo's to

I've gone S2 > Chim > S2 > S2. Although only V6 S's and not a V8 Mike is right, as a fun car the S ticks more boxes for me

Mileage is low and the price seems very good if it really is in vgc

At that price for a V8, assuming the VGC, you can't really go wrong.

Main difference between pre and post CAT is the noise....not much in performance if anything and would more likely depend on general engine condition.

I wouldn't hold out much hope of finding a 4.3 V8S - as far as I know they are a bit of a myth - I certainly haven't seen one.
Its hard enough to find a V8S

Normally they are 3.9 litre, though there are cat and pre cat versions.

I've been very happy with my V8S. They are great fun and maje a lively noise. Just a word of advice though, get a specialist to have a look at the chassis and especially the out-rigerrs on a ramp. Mine came with a receipt from a TVR dealer for £880 for out-rigger repairs. One side was but it turned out the rot on the other side had just been covered up with a new gusset plate. Be warned!. Joe
