At a guess Sao Paulo. Go to www.kayak.co.uk and try your luck with the various major cities on your preferred dates.

Sao Paulo and Rio De Janiero are probably your best bets. There are usually offers somewhere to get to Rio as it is so popular as a city and start point to many trips. Sao Paulo is often a stopover on the way there hence it's also cheap to get to. Have a look on Kayak, FlightScanner or STA/Flight Centre websites as they often have South American offers around.

I may be completly wrong here but several years ago I found it was cheaper to fly to Miami and then down to Lima or similar.

yes That is another option or via LAX then down South. I guess it depends where you plan to travel afterwards and by which route.

I agree that SP or Rio will be cheapest to get to as they are the most commercial and have most flights. It may depend on when you're travelling but in winter, ie now, your best bet may well be Rio, no tourist price hikes.

If you do end up in Sao Paulo and have to stopover, I live here and may be able to help you out a bit... It can be a daunting place to come.
