ok i bought my car about two months ago, it was just advertised as a standard 1992 k reg import in black. when i got there i found it had the yellow strut brace off an s-special, yellow bilstein which i havent taken good look at yet, spoiler and oem splitter and stainless sill plates an speaker trims, but it also was on daisies and has wooden nardi steering wheel gear knob and handbrake.. is it likely to be an s-spec or just a standard car with the extra bits added or infact an s-spec?

is there any diffinitive way to tell?

cheers

Open the driver's door, there should be a sticker on the door shut with the factory specs of the car. Under "Grade" if it says "S-SP" then it's an S-Spec.

If the sticker isn't there for whatever reason I guess you could call Mazda with your VIN and see if they could tell you?

I think the S-spec came with BBS wheels and leather nardi wheel/gearknob as standard?

Strut brace, bilsteins , LSD all standard too.

yer thats right mine has all of that apart from it didnt have bbs alloys(just got some) and the leather nardi steering wheel, knob an handbrake.. didn't get a proper chance to look at the sticker as the car is in bits with primer on it.

i dunno whether theyve just swapped the leather stuff for the wood an flogged the bbs alloys or whether its just had money spent on it to look like an s-spec..

My S-Spec doesn't have the rear spoiler or the leather wheel and gearknob, but that's because the previous owners changed them. Being black is probably more of an indication that it's really an S-Spec because I've seen very few, if any, MX5s of other specs in black.

Mine's an S-Spec and has all of that, the only thing I'm not sure about is the LSD.

Did they definitely all come with them?

All sounds about right. Gearknob, steering wheel and wheels are often (and easily) changed.

Chances are if it has the yellow strut brace and yellow Bilsteins it's an S-Spec.

The spoiler was a no cost option.

My car is a black '94 1.8 S-Spec - it has the brace/Billies, but some Mazdaspeed alloys and a Momo wheel and gearknob.

LSD on all S-Specs, TorSen type IIRC.
