If the "pull" at the door has sheered off, are there any other ways of opening the engine compartment on a 964. Slightly frustrating problem. Hopefully this isnt one of these small but very difficult fixes.
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give.

So now the engine compartment lid is open, but no way of closing it so i can get to my specialist to fix the damn thing. Another weekend of driving spoilt. Anyonehave any ideas on safe ways of closing it (as it automatically pops the catch when the cable is broken); so I can get it safely to my specialist, without doing any further damage.

Can you not tie it down? Bit of string/bungee between rear bumper/towing eye and a suitable point on the engine lid?

Yes going to have to, as nothing much else I can do, you are right. Now compounded by the alarm / immobisliser not letting me drive, keeps sending the alarm off. A bad day all round.

Is the alarm being triggered by a simple switch on the lid? Try taping the switch down as a stop-gap

too late now, as the battery has been drained. Due off on biz travel this evening, so will have to deal with it back end of next week. Fed up..

all fixed now, re-charged the battery; my specialist dealer came out (brilliant), and then took it back in to do a simple fix with a new release handle.

A Lesson learnt: engine lid (when open) = linked to light in front compartment = drained battery...d'oh.
