Halifax? Classy? Can't help you there! biglaugh
Try Brookes in Brighouse. Always good food, and the most spotless kitchen I've seen in 20 years dealing in restaurants & bars. Probably a bit nearer to you is La Cachette in Elland, (same owner as Souz Le Nez in Leeds CC).

Yes forgot about Brooks. Being once before a few years ago. Nice atmosphere.

Try the Villa Margherita in Ripponden if you like mediterranean style food. The food and service is always superb. The kitchen is run by Bob and Barbera who have a Greek background and front of house is taken care of by Dariel who is Spanish.

It is a bit of a way out (but a superb drive) but how about The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey? http://www.thedevonshirearms.co.uk/

back from dinner, went to Villa Margherita in Ripponden. Nice little place, not expensive and good food. Worth a try and some nice roads on the drive in too!

Quite good, not the best steak in Leeds though. Bibis on the other hand is not quite good!

Too late but the best place around is The Brasserie at the Bull. Fantastic food and great service.

I was trying to help the OP out with suggestions LOCAL to him. And yes, I was taking the p!ss. Calderdale and Kirklees are hardly recognised/renowned for their culinary excellence! Ming Cottage probably excluded.

This being PH, I suggest at some point you take her up the OXO tower.

It's had some very good reviews.
