Hello - does anyone know who I can get to do an inspection ( pre-purchase) on a Chimaera in Scotland?

I tried the search but didn't seem able to find anything.

Thanks in advance

Got the RAC to do mine. Very thorough. Obviously done Tivs before 'cos he knew what he was looking for.

Haven't used them myself, but Dreadnought in Callander have done independent TVR maintenance for years. When TVR were still on the go, Brandon & Glenvarigill used to sell & service cars in the east, but that was a while back and I think Brandon shut up shop years ago anyway.

Got the RAC to do mine when I was looking as AA won't inspect TVRs, £300 but very thorough and worth it in the long run. Learnt a lot from the inspection docs and saved me buying a poor example which would have cost a fortune to repair. Used the inspection list when searching and finally finding a good one.

Sorry for resurrecting an old topic, but I find myself in a similar position to the original poster.

Whilst the RAC are an option, I would prefer to use someone who knows TVRs and their quirks. Can anyone suggest/recommend anyone in Edinburgh, to inspect a Chimaera for me, please?

Thanks,

David

Perhaps an existing owner in the area would have a look with you. I don't know of any in Edinburgh but ther is a TVR meeting tomorrow at the wheel house at the Falkirk wheel. I,'ll ask any chimera owners that turn up and see if they are close to you. Or if you are looking for something to do you could come along to the meeting it starts at 12.30.

Why don't you try Barry at TVR Ecosse in Dundee, I'm sure he would be able to help you out.

Great - very useful.

Barry at Ecosse TVR seems to be the man to speak to - it turns out he has done a fair bit of work to this particular car, so probably knows it pretty well. He seems to be widely held in high regard. A phone call on Tuesday seems to be the next step.

Many thanks,

David

I was in to see Barry last week - really helpful guy. You should be able to get hold of him over the weekend, he is taking mine in tomorrow to sort out the clutch.

Hi All,

A quick update.

I spoke to Barry (TVR Ecosse) at some length, about the car, and he knew it well, having spent many hours on it (or under it). He is such a down to earth, helpful chap - loads of sensible comments and advice. Barry has carried out an inspection for me and I have now bought the car. I just need to get it 300 miles south, which should be happening over the next few days, arriving with me on Monday.

If I was anywhere near Dundee I would be getting Barry to look after it for me - he is an approachable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic guy.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

I shall be posting pics when the car gets through border control.

Nice one. This is my old car and it was 40 hours Barry pent under it cleaning, scraping and painting the chassis. Sorry again Barry if you read this.

I really regret selling this car and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Like you I have bought a car a fair distance away and still trying to work out best way to get it up to Scotland
