Racking my brains to work out where I have misplaced my passport, if worst comes to the worst, is it possible to obtain a replacement passport between now and Wednesday? If so, how?!!! Help appreciated!

The cost of renewing an adult passport
To renew an adult ten-year 32-page passport costs £77.50 for standard service, £112.50 for the one-week Fast Track Service and £129.50 for the one-day Premium service. If you were born on or before 2 September 1929 your passport is free of charge, but you will need to pay the extra fee for Fast Track or Premium services if you use them.
You can find detailed information in the section 'Passport fees, how long it takes and urgent passport applications'.

Making an urgent application - travelling in less than two weeks
To get your passport within two weeks, you will need to apply in person at one of IPS’s Regional Passport Offices. You can use:
the Fast Track one-week service
the Premium one-day service
To use either service you must first make an appointment. You can do this by calling the IPS Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000. The line is open seven days a week between 7.00 am and 11.00 pm.
IPS strongly recommends that you do not book travel arrangements until you have your passport.

Making appointments to visit in person
Demand for appointments in all IPS regions is usually very high. You should therefore allow up to two weeks for your appointment date. You cannot book appointments more than two weeks in advance.
If you make an appointment please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your appointment time to avoid unnecessary queuing.
Fast Track one-week service
This service guarantees delivery of your passport by Secure Delivery within one week (excluding bank and public holidays) of you applying.
The guarantee applies only if:
you supply your completed form and all supporting documents to IPS at the agreed appointment
you are in to sign for delivery of the passport if required
This service is not available for a first adult passport.
Premium one-day service
The Premium service is a guaranteed service in which you deliver your application and collect your passport on the same day. It is available on weekdays for appointments before:
4.00 pm in London
1.30 pm in Liverpool
1.00 pm in Peterborough
12.30 pm in Glasgow and Newport
12.00 noon in Belfast and Durham
And on Saturdays for appointments before 11.00 am.
The waiting time for your passport will be four hours from when the application is accepted and the cashier gives you a receipt.
This service is not available for:
a first adult or first child passport
making several or complex changes to your existing passport (simply changing your name can usually be done using the Premium service - if you are unsure you should call the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000 and explain the changes you need)
extending a limited passport
replacing a lost, stolen or damaged passport

Good luck.

More accurately the answer is "yes". What they won't do is guarantee that if you've lost your passport, and you get an appointment, that they will fast track you a new one. But they can, and do, do it. I had to do one - realised it was missing on the Tuesday, got an appointment in Peterborough for Wednesday 9am, and had a new one in my sticky mitts by about noon. Which was a good job, the flight was on Thursday smile

Strange really. If the system exists and they make twice as much by doing it why is it not open to all who request it?

This is correct. I did exactly this in March this year. Chose to drive to Peterborough as I prefer to drive than take numerous trains/tubes etc. I also got the first slot of the day so went very early and missed the traffic. They say up to four hours turnaround, but basically you can pop back to the passport office a couple of hours after the 'interview' and the new passport will likely be ready. Easy peasy - just costs twice as much as a normal passport renewal!

Hi everyone,

I am in the same situation and have just booked an appointment at the Peterborough passport office. It's a One-Week service (because it's been lost), but I want to try this trick with popping back to the passport office in a couple of hours, hoping this will save my trip!

I read that to collect your passport (for those who have Same-Day service), you "hand in your receipt at a counter at the enterance". This is what I should do too? I mean, do they keep all ready-to-go passports in the same place, even those who were NOT processed as Same-Day service?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot for your post, it sounds promising! Did you collect your passport from the same counter at the enterance as people who used Same-Day service?

I phoned and made an appointment, turned up as requested, someone checked my documents (one occasion was advised to have a new piccy done) went and had lunch and a wonder around, went back at the allotted time, all sorted

I ended up booking an appointment at Liverpool office over the phone, try and get an early morning appointment. When there, they asked me if I wanted same day (which made sense to me), so they asked me to pop back at about 2pm and hey presto: brand new passport. Take a book and find a coffee shop.

Ring for appointment asap though.

Hi everyone,

Everything went smoothly, lady was helpful and friendly, we handed papers at 11AM, got passports at 2PM. We specifically asked if we could collect passports today, she said she's not sure and needed to check. Then she checked typing our names, etc, and said: "Yes, it's OK, I'll give you PINK tickets which allow collection". I assumed that some other kind of tickets would not allow this. So, if you want to collect you replacement passports the same day, make sure you ask for a pink ticket.

Thanks everyone for help!
