Getting my E39 M5 tomorrow!!
Discussion
Congrats!
I STILL want an E39 Alpine White M5!
I've met a few US owners of white M5's including an awesome Dinan modified example! Also I think Imola Red looks a fantastic colour as well! In fact, all the E39 M5's colours are great lookers, I don't think there's a 'bad' colour in all the line up. An owner has the Oxford Green 2 and it looks great, he keeps it nicely polished and cleaned and in direct light it's very nice. I know there's always popular choices - LMB, Carbon Black, Silverstone etc, but the others shouldn't be instantly dismissed as they often are
Does anyone actually know, if there are any UK E39 M5's in Alpine white? else, I know another owner who's thinking of doing a Vinyl wrap on his... !
Cheers, Dennis!

Thanks for the replies and warm welcome everyone...
I'm really pleased with the car, the alloys aren't particularly to my taste but the car came with the originals, which are going for a refurb prior to refitting. I'll sell these Breyton monsters on!
Car is otherwise pretty standard, other than a detachable tow bar and a short shift kit. The car has the stereo upgrade, SatNav (accepts postcodes which is great), electric rear blinds, built in booster seat in the rear, phone etc...
It has done 91000 and was registered just before the 1st of March 2001, so the tax is reasonable! It has had recent MAFs and a new clutch 5000 miles ago. Front has had paint (for stonechips) and bizarrely one of the rear parking sensors is black instead of blue.
The plate won't be staying, I presume the previous owner went for V6 as his previous car was a V6 GTV!
One thing I need to sort is the gear knob (which has seen better days), I want a metal one with illumination, How much from the stealer, or does anyone know a good aftermarket one?
Digger, I've mainly had B3's (Saloons and Coupes). I did borrow a friends B10 V8 for a long weekend though and I find that the M5 is a different beast. The B10 is the height of luxury and are really well appointed. I was spoiled as my mates was an ex show car and was very special inside. It also had more power than a standard B10 V8 (as Alpina wanted to impress the press!). The biggest difference is the switchtronic gearbox. I find the steering on the M5 miles better though!
Now for the piccies!

Thanks guys for the positive comments. I didn't look at many, I usually find you can root out the rubbish from descriptions and piccies...
It did sit on Pistonheads for a while whilst I got the financing in order. I thought Quinten might go for it as it had the towbar! Sorry Quinten but I'm keeping the towbar!
Only other thing I forgot to mention is the service history - which is impeccable - 90% main dealer at 10 thou intervals (including running in service)
I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions in the coming weeks and months!

Lovely mate looks gorgeous, just put a deposit down on a 1999 M5, test drive tommorrow can't wait and still can't believe i'm getting one. This is the only one I have looked at as you said you can kinda work out the good ones plus it was 9 miles down the road.It did sit on Pistonheads for a while whilst I got the financing in order. Looks a real cracker... They are an incredible amount of car for the money.. If you buy wisely of course.
I've had mine for about 15 months now and Im still staggered by the cars performance/ability.. There aint a great deal around that I feel I could upgrade to without spending silly money.. Enjoy.
