Hi all,

Sorry i cant provide More detail, but could anyone offer a ball park figure for how long it might take a fairly modern 45ft motor cruiser? (gin palace) to get from liverpool to douglas IOM?

Thanks

Liverpool to Douglas is 82 miles

Speeds

5 Knots = 5.8mph
10 knots = 11.5mph
15 knots = 17.3 mph
20 knots = 23 mph
25 knots = 28.8 mph

So if said gin palace can do 15 knots, it would take 4.7 hours.

I'd say 4-5 hours too. Ferry takes about 4 and a bit IIRC and decent cruisers should keep up with the ferry. But if the Irish Sea is choppy, it could be 6 plus!

But I am not sure you can nav your own way out of the Mersey can you? Pilots required for any decent size boats.

Cheers fellas, slowest ferry is 4 hours - apparently! i been quoted 6 which i thought sounded excessive, but maybe the skipper is erring on the cautious side.

Have sailed a little before and reached 10-12 knots under sail so surely any self respecting motor cruiser can do 20 +?

Think the Seacat does it in about 2.5 hrs, subject to prevailing winds.

Depends on so many things - sea state being the main one! You may get 20kts close to the coast, but if you go out where it's lumpy you need to slow down. The fuel bill also goes up exponentially with speed wink
