London cab driver manhandled by police.
Discussion
Yesterday to highlight the fact that TFL is allowing London to be like some 3rd world city London taxi drivers staged a demo to try and force some action on touting outside bars and clubs by illegal touts(8-10)sex assaults a month.
A driver was called a w....r by a motorist this cabbie answered back and this is what happened ,notice the TFL guy trying to hide what is happening.

Slightly odd.
See something added to the youtube clup:
'I am the driver who was arrested and I have sustained a fractured wrist. I would be grateful if you were a witness or you know any of the witnesses if you could forward a brief statement or just your name and contact details to eccles93@hotmail.com as I intend to take the matter further, thanks John Melville '

You were onto a good point before you added the race element.A driver was called a w....r by a motorist this cabbie answered back and this is what happened ,notice the TFL guy trying to hide what is happening.look at this and think of the tamil demo and others where the police did nothing.
The Police in general seem to have gone from being 'friends' of the public to being enemies. I am still a young guy, but I've heard stories of Policemen back in the day being friendly chaps always smiling and offering help. Now that could be romanticised, but surely they didn't treat the average member of public with suspicion which often seems to be the case today.
The Police do themselves no favours. I used to look towards the Police with respect, but after various events that have happened to me and others, I gradually made the change towards viewing them in a negative light. It feels like 'The Police' and 'us' are on different sides of the fence, when in fact we should be on the same side. Government cronies I guess.

"look at this and think of the tamil demo and others where the police did nothing."
I was thinking of the above quote actually. To me it sounds like you are trying to insinuate that this only happened because the taxi driver was a white English man. But it happened because the Police seem to have become a bunch of incompetent f
kwits treating the general public as criminals.

I'd forgotten that you were able to tell from short edited clips everything about an incident. We don't know the whole story

From what's there. Taxi driver gets nicked. He refuses to co- operate. He resists being placed in cuffs. He's taken to floor in an approved manner. Cuffs are applied. Once he calms the cuffs are loosened and re adjusted to the front he is taken away.
Use of force is minininal. I see no punches or strikes. Containment only.
Whether the use of force is justified depends very much on what happens before the video starts.
The force may or may not be justified depending on a whole set of circumstances.
I would hope his wrist is not broken.
Arrested people however have an obligation to comply with arrest.
Cue oddessy2200 and cronies making all sorts of moans they trot out every time and making their minds up based on a thread title. Who needs evidence?
Me. I can based on experience see what could have happened I can also see how it looks to those who haven't spent over 15 years dealing with non compliant people.
Force is limited and in line with training.
Arrest. No idea if lawful.
Level of force used. No idea if appropriate. The detained chap was clearly not compliant though and once he was he was up and away.
Didn't see any video blocking by police. They seemed at ease to be on camera. Only saw 2 officers dealing with him.
Lawful and justified? No idea based on this clip.
Shay, the world has changed totally in the last 40 years, the police dealt with criminals and the breadth of the law was smaller back then, to be stopped whilst driving a rarity, so rare that I was about 12 and my father over 40 years old before he was stopped by one, I know this because later when he told my mother it was an 'event' discussed at the dinner table a number of times.
The odd thing is that in those days cars were fairly ropey but people were less prone to petulance, anger and rudeness, it happened, but it was the exception. Thing are now turned on their heads, the cars on the road are in comparison show-room models, but people are far more prone to all those human vices.
You only have to read some of the things here to realise how much, there is more hate displayed here about other drivers than I can believe sometimes, if we all hate each other or lack tolerance then you are going to be policed in a similar way.
There is huge suspicion of other drivers on here, if we all suspect each other of some subtle ulterior motive then you are going to be policed in a similar way.
I say policed, my guess is that the average policeman is ambivalent to the entire change, if you are given laws to uphold, you'll do it, it's the job.
It's called 'upholding the law', the fact that there is too much law is another matter entirely and perhaps the result of that old phrase "dair awta be a law agenstit", well there is now, for almost anything you can think of and quite few you couldn't.
Policing seems, still, to be about catching criminals, no change there, the trouble is that because we are less confined in our outlook and move about far more than we ever did in the past, we are all criminals to a lesser or greater extent during any average day/week/month/year.
In the past if a policeman saw 4 rough blokes in a MK2 Jag with cauliflower ears and busted type noses they were probably up to no good, now the same guys are local rugby players in an Audi and you know what? Because of the all encompassing nature of the law they too are more than likely breaking the law in some fiendishly subtle way!
No answer for you Shay, just a view of today from an old fart.

Typical fat gobby cockney, he is probably a Millwall fan. Police acted reasonably and fairly. Whats the problem?
Oh and all this rose tinted rubbish about the police back in the seventies. The police, or pigs as everyone used to cAll them, were horrible, in the West Mids at least, and stopped motorists much more than they do these days. I once was punched in the face when stopped on a Fizzie as I debated a point of law. The police these days are too soft, in Sussex at least, surely there's a halfway house?

I have very limited experience of the police in my lifetime, the first time I was stopped was 5/6 years ago after driving for 30+ years.
I have in the meantime been stopped half a dozen times since. With each subsequent stop the impression I got was that someone was looking to justify the stop by trying to find something to issue a ticket of some kind.
I have nearly 40 years of accident free driving, no points or fines in that time, my licence remains as clean today as it was when I received my provisional all those years ago, but I feel it is more at risk today than it has ever been, impressions count, they really do.
Wonder if there is a video of said motorist who called him a w
ker, who presumably started the whole chain of events, being pulled from his car, put to the floor, handcuffed, questioned for 20 minutes then released.

This on a forum from a guy I know, former soldier now a Taxidriver in .I agree with him totally .
"I found the over zealous and bullying 'arrest' dished out to our colleague John Melville, despicable and gut wrenching. What on earth was that sergeant, who should have known better, thinking of ? Rolling around on the floor like a big iron, in the most pathetic and unprofessional handcuff technique, that I have ever had the disenchantment to watch.
Fortunately for that sergeant, John was merely a law abiding Licensed London Cabby, attending a demo with his mates. Can you imagine if he had wanted to get serious, what he could have done to that wimp of a bulling copper ? I would like to have seen Sergeant Bully Boy try the same operational tactic with a tooled up mini cab tout. He would have sh*t himself and got plunged in the process. It is the unprofessional and useless Police service that we have to pay for these days, that really wind me up. I have got close and personal ties with the police, and coppers like this berk should be signed off sick or sacked.
Absolutely no need whatsoever for that pathetic and bullying over reaction, unless John had pulled a blade out on him ! I hope you have a nice period of sickness off work as a result of the Met's finest John, and hope you end up with a few quid out of it too. Meanwhile, I hope the sergeant involved in this disgraceful assault, shows his kids how brave their Dad was at work yesterday".
