I've looked into this and decided that they are too expensive (or I am too tight) £250 for a bit of pipe!

So I will be making my own one. 3" stainless (i.e. bigger than normal), should cost in the order of £100 for the bits, hopefully.

YHM!

I had a look at mine today, as the end bit had fallen off, and it looks like the shock absorber and spring has to come off too allow the exhaust to come out.

However with the A-frame you need a spring compressor to get the spring out (the trailing arm is much easier) which I don't have to hand, so looks like I'm going to weld on a bodge bit for now at the end of the pipe in situ.

Hi Adam

You can take off the rear shock by using a jack under the bottom of the shock and letting the pressure off then the bolt is takein out, there is not a lot of preload in the spring, easy to take it them off.

Yeah I tried that, but the springs on mine must be longer, because it was stll up against the top mount quite hard. I even tried stepping on the hub to bring it down but it didn't move much further.

On the 350i I use exactly the same technique and then you can take off the bottom of the shock too as it's hanging off the back of the trailing arm.

Spring compressors on ebay for about a tenner... hmm...

hmmmm
i've had to move my request for a tail pipe a bit quicker as i've had a little accident with my jack ,which crushed my old exhaust.
Shaun has given me a s/s pipe for a 350, very much the same apart a small difference in angle on the connecting end.
I remove the old exhaust with out removing anything but the new one is higher at the point over the axle, I cannot get it in the same way.

Adam/ Cambell, I dont understand what you two are saying (both make sence i am sure but "i am not with you fruites")
Are you saying to jack up the complete axle, compress the spring (with the spring compress i have) remove the bolt of the shocker at the top (in that very little gap between the body) which then enables the shocker and the spring to be removed.

Steve - is yours trailing arm? In which case it's much easier to get the shock off.

Yeah he spring will need compressing unless its a short one, I saw some things on ebay for part-compressing springs, I might make some, they look quite easy to make. It only has to be about 3" shorter so not much compression needed.
