I am considering buying a Cooper S, having borrowed a 52 reg Cooper for about 4 months I love it, however do feel a bit more power would improve it in my eyes. I have read a few posts about poor fuel consumption in the early supercharged models. I just wondered if this worsens with the Works conversion? Is it purely an engine upgrade or were there other differences too? Thanks in advance, James.

Full works conversion was a different charger and smaller pulley, bigger injectors, an air intake and a remap. The fuel consumption does get a little bit worse but not be much (and depends massively on driving style).

If you're worried about the fuel costs then maybe look at an R56 later car as they're a massive improvement.

The SC cover is different and the injectors are Blue if I recall. The JCW should come with a certificate as well.

Im not hugely concerned about the fuel consumption merely asking if it were dramatically different, I am hoping to see one this week so have a good look in the flesh.

I have a 52 plate JCW.

Driving nicely on a run I can hit about 36 mpg.

Driving around town, I get about 25mpg.

As soon as you start using the revs, and extra power, the economy soon drops.

I put £52 of Super Unleaded in the car, and get about 260 miles to it.

Great cars- but I would make sure you get the JCW brakes on it too. You will see under the bonnet due to a lovely sticker which tells you it has them, also you get nice red calipers to go with it.

Fuel consumption wise, I always get 32.4 MPG over a 320 mile tank- and that's with a car that's now done 98,000 miles.
