BiG bore exhausts modification why why why

Watching f1 qual and seeing the size of the exhausts they appear no more than 3-4 inches max now I have seen countless big bore on chavs cars just why do they do it

I remember being overtaken on the motorway by a chav car with a big bore exhaust, it was painful you could hear and feel the pulses from each cylinder, it also sounded seriously st.

You can't blame the kids for trying, I suppose, but the thing that annoys me is when you hear a fruity exhaust note and think "that sound's tasty", then turn around only to see a poxy Nova or somesuch going past.

Big bore exhausts make the car more loud.
