I am starting a new job down in London in the next couple of months and will be doing quite a bit of driving, around 14k a year, 90% motorways.

I have a budget of £8000-£9000, and need something that can sit quite happily at 85mph, does 40mpg+ (diesel?), has enough toys to keep me happy and isn't going to let me down. 4 doors would be nice but isn't a major issue.

Can anyone recommend me any makes/models?

I have looked at the Octavia vRS but the interior seems massively plain, Citroen C5 was nice but is massively sluggish, passat/vectra do nothing for me, and im not quite sure where to look with Audis & BMWs.

cheers guys! smile

A3 1.9/2.0 TDI. Personally, i love the interior, and there are plenty of 5 doors around in a range of colours/trim levels/specs.

I asked a similar question on here and someone suggested a Honda Accord. I ended up with a 2.2 diesel and love it. Lots of toys - 6 spd box, dual climate aircon, electric sunroof, power heated seats and mirrors, cd multichanger. And the best bit is its good to drive, sporty and capable of getting an indicated mpg of over 50 (I did it on a long run recently without trying too hard).

And I never liked diesels OR saloons... Worth a look!
