Evening all. I am in need of help. Just been on holiday and really liked a plant that was in the garden, but despite having pictures I can't find out what it is called or where to get one from. We meant to take a cutting but only remembered half way home.

I do have the following pics though, so if anyone has any clues as to what it is, I would be grateful!

Damn, I thought he said 'paint identification' and wanted a colour to match the flower...

Dulux 'Lighter Shades Hint of Misty Pink' I reckon.

Could be a rhododendron by the size of the flowers very similar to azaleas

It's a Rhododendron. There are loads of different varieties.

They need acid soil, as in NEED it, and will not do well at all without it. If you don't have this (and you probably don't or you'd be seeing these around where you live) the best bet is to grow them in large container with suitable compost.

We had assumed it was a rhododendron of some kind, but I couldn't find it on any of the websites I looked at. Don't worry, we know about growing them, as we already have one thriving in our clay filled soil as it is due to vast quantities of ericaceous compost. We were a bit surprised at just how well it's grown really.

The plant is both a Rhododendron and an Azalea (all Azaleas are Rhodo's), not sure of the variety but their not easy to take cuttings so don't worry about forgetting it. There are plenty of nurseries which deal specifically with them so they would be a good place to get one. As far as ericaceous soils in clay is concerned don't forget to keep adding acid compost to it as it will become more alkaline if left for a few years. An addition of some epsom salts in Spring would help as well.

Azalea Summer Sorbet.

It would appear you can now get Azalea / Rhododendrum tweaked for lime soil types now.
