Stupidly thought it was a good idea to ask my missus to clean bird poo off my car door whilst i got in the shower.

She went out with a bowl of hot water and a sponge, it was baked on pretty good so she decided to use the scotchbrite side of the sponge!

Now on the passenger door is a nice clean patch where the bird poo was and loads of tiny scratches all around it, sticks out like a sore thumb!

The scratches look pretty small but i'm a complete newbie to cleaning (as in, I use some shampoo and washmitt to wash the car, watering can to rinse and then let it dry in the sun!) i've never done any sort of scratch removal etc and my dad said using stuff like t-cut on metallic paint can make the lacquer peal (it happened on his old car)

What do i do?

Tell her she's ruined the car, the scratches will spread and the whole car will look like crazy paving within 3 months and the paint will fall off within 6. The only remedy is to flog all her handbags on fleabay to pay for a pro detailer who will, hopefully, stop the rot.

Then trundle to halfords and pick up some Meguairs Scratch X, remember to wax afterwards. Spend the rest of the cash on coke & hookers.

Your cleaning schedule seems ok, but why do you not dry the car ? A chamois or micro fibre would be far better than letting the sun dry the bodywork.

Farecla scratch remover or Meguiars scratch-x would be a good start if the scratched area is clean. Working it by hand with a polish cloth. If that doesn't help you're looking at professional detail to cut the area smooth.

I don't dry it because i read stories about people drying their cars and thats when your more likely to scratch your car than any other time, it leaves dirty marks sometimes when i leave it to dry in the sun but i'd rather them than scratches.

Its a Ibiza FR, so this meguires stuff is safe on metallic paints?

first off, sack the missus. she's obviously no good at car detailing .
get yourself some good cleaner/polisher and try slowly.
if all else fails, have a word with a pro.

I had a customer who decided to wash his wife's car as a treat.
He couldn't wait for water to soak into the dead flies so did exactly the same as your wife.
On the bonnet, both wings & the bumper. Looked great whilst it was wet......
She was slightly underwhelmedfurious

Easy machine polishing job!
